The Marin French Cheese Company, established in 1865, is the oldest continuously running cheese manufacturer in the United States. Founded by Jefferson A. Thompson, their cheeses were originally transported to Petaluma by horse-drawn carriage then to the docks of San Francisco by steamboat. More than 150 years later, the Marin French Cheese Company still sources milk from dairies within a 20-mile radius of their production facility.
