Spring Brook Farm


For kids growing up in urban areas, there can be a huge disconnect between food & understanding where it comes from. The Farms for City Kids Foundation looked to bridge this gap by bringing kids to Spring Brook Farm in order to learn about sustainability through teaching and helping out on the farm. Not only does the farm cover 1,000 acres in Vermont, but is also home to countless animals, including a herd of 100 Jersey cows. The milk from this small herd, in addition to milk sourced from two small, local dairies all go into cheese production. Cheesemaking was introduced as a revenue-stream for the farm, which is not only a tool to get kids inspired to create in the kitchen, but has also provided a sustainable economy within their rural community. Truly a farm with a mission!
